The Guadalupe River, starting at the Canyon Lake Dam to the top of Lake Dunlap at IH 35 in New Braunfels, is just over 23 miles and is known as the "Lower Guad". This particular section of the Guadalupe River is the most heavily used in terms of recreation, and therefore is the top destination for white water rafting, canoeists, kayaking, fly fishing, and tubing. The “Upper Guadalupe River” is the stretch of Guadalupe River in Spring Branch that leads into Canyon Lake. While not known for large crowds, the riverfront can be every bit as scenic with it’s towering cypress trees, and the fishing is every bit as good. If you are looking for more affordable Guadalupe River frontage in Central Texas, check out the stretch that begins just east of Seguin below Meadow Lake.
