Which Canyon Lake Texas Boat Ramps Are Open?

Posted by Hunter Croan on Thursday, February 29th, 2024 at 9:02am.

Also, are there any Canyon Lake boat ramps open?  These are the questions we get constantly know however rightfully so since Canyon Lake is currently at historic lows BUT there is still plenty of water and two boat ramps open as of March of 2024. The good news is that Comal County is extending 3 of the boat ramps while the lake is down and doing much needed work to another which means in the future, Canyon Lake will be much easier to access in future drought situations.  First, lets discuss which boat ramps are currently open as of March 2024:

OPEN: Canyon Lake Marina – Boat Ramp #19

The boat ramp is technically open 24 hours however you must purchase your day pass when the marina is open with is from 9am to 5pm.  Same day purchases and next day purchases available.  They will only allow you to pre-purchase a day pass for the next day.

The pass cost $30 and you must park in the gravel area behind the gate and not in the restaurant’s parking area.

OPEN: Boat Ramp #18

Boat ramp #18 is open 7 days a week even though their websites states only Saturday and Sunday.  They are open from 7am to 1pm however once you are in, you can stay on the lake after 1pm.  You just need to have your boat off the water and out of the park by 4pm or you could be towed.

The Cost: if you vehicle is registered in Comal County, the cost is $5 per vehicle.  If you vehicle is registered outside of Comal County it will run you $20/vehicle.

Extending boat ramps 2, 7, & 8

As mentioned above, Comal County is extending 3 boat ramps which is great news for boat owners and lakefront residence as well.  Details include:

  • Boat Ramp 2: Extending up to 25 feet and also adding 6 non-trailer parking spaces and additional space for boat launch
  • Boat Ramp 7: Extended up to 100 feet!
  • Boat Ramp 8: Extending up to 75 feet

In future drought situations this lake will be much easier to access due to these ramps being extended.  As most people know, Canyon Lake is a non-constant level lake however what they don’t realize is that it is the most constant (in my opinion) of the area non-constant level lakes. Why is this?  Canyon Lake has less commitments to sell water downstream than other area rivers. We were out on the lake the other day (2/20/24) and found several spots on Canyon Lake still over 100’ deep. Let’s compare the non-constant level lakes in Central Texas as of March 26th, 2024:

Other Canyon Lake Boat Ramp Updates

  • Boat Ramp 1: Increasing Existing USACE Lease by .422 Acres which will add 20 non-trailer parking spaces
  • Boat Ramp 5: Increasing Existing USACE Lease by 0.415 Acres to be able to install a Boat with Trailer Turnaround. They are also adding 15 Non-Trailer Parking Spaces

The General Publics Misunderstand Leads to Great Buying Opportunities

If you are in the market for a lake house, Canyon Lake is a great option because most people are uniformed about the levels, access, and usability of this lake even in drought situations. There are more Canyon Lake Homes For Sale to pick from than there has been over the last few years.  At times when the lake was full over the last few years, there were only 1-2 lake homes on the market. As of 2/26/2024 there are 22 lake houses for sale.  This means there are more homes to pick from and sellers at times are more negotiable.  You are seeing the same thing with boat dealers.  For instance, Texas Malibu has numerous in-stock boats to pick from and great incentives.  In short, Canyon Lake is open and it is time to go play on the lake!

NOTE: we will do our best to keep this information as up to date as possible however things can change.
