206 Forest Dr, Buchanan Dam

Lake Buchanan is the oldest of all the lakes in the Highland Lakes chain. That means the communities surrounding it are well established, each with its own personality and charm. There are lots of reasons to consider Lake Buchanan homes for sale when you’re looking for your perfect lakefront property.
Lake Buchanan boasts almost 124 miles of shoreline, so there is plenty of room for activities on the lake and a wide variety of living and recreational space on the shoreline. Just up the Colorado River from Inks Lake and Lake LBJ, Lake Buchanan is not a constant-level lake like Lake Travis.
It is, however, deep and wide enough (30 miles long and as far across as 5 miles in some areas) that there is never a danger of the water levels dropping too low or rising too high to allow for a good time either in the water or on the shoreline.
Living In the Lake Buchanan AreaLake Buchanan has a significant tourist presence, with much of the lakefront property lined with campgrounds, RV parks, rental properties, and recreational areas. That is not to say that the area does not have plenty of permanent residences for people who want to enjoy the tremendous views and lakefront lifestyle year round. Nor does the presence of tourists during the busy season detract from the benefits of life on this lake. In fact, many residents enjoy the vibrancy that seasonal guests bring. Lake Buchanan is the second largest in the Highland Lakes chain of lakes which leaves plenty of room for everyone to enjoy the lake. The area surrounding Lake Buchanan offers some of the most affordable real estate of all the Highland Lakes. Private residences range in price from the mid 300’s to nearly $2,000,000. (some estates could sell a lot higher) Don't be fooled by the reasonable price; nothing from life around Lake Buchanan is lacking. This lake is a popular wakesurfing lake thanks to its deep waters. The deeper the water the larger the wave. It is also a favorite destination for fishing, but it also has enough room for you to find a quiet place to fish even if kayakers, swimmers, and other water sport enthusiasts are out in large numbers. City life is not far away. Austin is just 60 miles away, San Antonio 95 miles away, and for access to everything you could ever need, Dallas/Fort Worth is less than 200 miles away. Entertainment in Lake BuchananBefore you decide to travel to any nearby cities, look at what you can do without traveling far from your new Lake Buchanan area home. They provide unique and spectacular views of flora and fauna in and around Lake Buchanan and the Colorado River. For a more active view of the area's natural wonders, you may consider visiting one of the several parks in the area, including Longhorn Cavern State Park. If you would prefer to see art inspired by nature, perhaps on the rare days when the weather is bad, consider a trip to the Daniel Adams Fine Art Gallery, right in Buchanan Dam. If food and drink are more your style, you will still find plenty to do. For a fun night out, you could try Reverend Jim's Dam Pub, among others. There are also several wineries nearby, like the Torr Na Lochs Vineyard and Winery, where you can sample fine wines while looking out over the beautiful landscape.
